Executive Director / Founder - Laurie Brinkworth
Laurie has been involved with horses since she was just a toddler. During childhood Laurie took riding lessons at Parkview Riding School in Central Islip, N.Y. She also belonged to the Girl Scouts and did numerous volunteer projects at Parkview, attended schooling shows, and summer camps. Her grandparents owned a house in the Pocono Mountains with a Community owned Stable where Laurie volunteered and rode on weekends, holiday's, and summers until she graduated from High School and moved to the area. She was then hired as an employee. She has also worked for Malibu Stables in Milford, P.A., Triple W Stables in Hawley, P.A., and Indigo Stabes in Jeffersonville, N.Y. After the birth of her first daughter she moved back to Long Island, N.Y. and opened up her own successful boarding barn. She became a single mom and divorcee a few years later and took a job with Canine Companions for Independence which is a Non-Profit Org who raises/trains/matches Service Dogs with disabled partners. During that time she met Dr. George Kramer, a leading Veterinary Cardiologist and soon took a job working with him at first as a vet assistant, and then moving up do the job of veterinary technician. At the same time, she also met Veterinarian Dr. Babette Gladstein whom she worked with as a Veterinary Technician doing USEF drug testing at horse shows, and doing rehabilitation on racehorses at both Aqueduct and Belmont racetracks in N.Y. While working with both of the aforementioned veterinarians Laurie also took courses in Equine Nutrition, which she continues to take as Continuing Education Credits to this day in order to stay current on Equine Nutrition.

Board Member - Timothy Donahue
Tim brings to the rescue a strong work ethic and a love for horses. Tim has a background in the Armed Forces and in Law Enforcement. Now, semi-retired he gives his time to the horses here at the rescue. We can always count on Tim to help build things, put up fencing, and care for horses
While we specialize in OTTB's (Off The Track Thoroughbred's), we do accept and care for all types of equines. Our rescue has remained at operating capacity for quite some time now. Due to this, we are currently unable to take in horses needing to be placed. We will however be more than happy to put them up as a courtesy listing and to help you spread the word and hopefully find them a loving home.
We were lucky to start our shelter back in 2007 and we've been able to successfully keep our doors open for almost 10 years now. It's taken a lot of love, hard work and dedication, but the animals make every day a joy for us!
